Officially GOGREEN certified.
Standard Chartered compensated 9.268 tons of CO2 in 2010 through participation in the GOGREEN programme
and received the official certificate from Deutsche Post.
A benefit for the environment and a good reason to sustain our engagement.
As of 1 March 2010 Standard Chartered Bank of Germany has joined Deutsche Post in its GoGreen Campaign. We now send out letters and mailings carbon neutral and show our engagement with the GOGREEN logo on every envelope.
By using the principles of the Kyoto Protocol, Deutsche Post determines the carbon emissions produced by sending our letters. The compensation of carbon emissions is certified by the independent association Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) as per the principles of ISO 14064. Neutralization will be achieved by supporting climate protection projects worldwide.
Information on individual projects can be found here:
- Currently we are investing through Deutsche Post in a hydroelectric installation in Brazil. The people in the western part of the state of Mato Grosso get their clean energy supply exclusively from the current of the Juruena River. In the long term, this energy supply will replace a thermal power station whose diesel generators cause 20,000 tons of carbon emissions each year.
- We are also supporting a biomass power station in Karnataka, India. Agricultural waste such as sugarcane leaves, coconut shells, maize cobs and wood remains are burned as fuel to generate energy. This green electricity replaces the energy created from conventional; fossil fuels. The resulting ashes are also used as fertilizer.
Naturally, you too can play your part in protecting the environment, by stopping receipt of your monthly account statement by post and signing up to retrieve it online. Please help us to reduce carbon emissions and to save paper. As another benefit you also save postal charges from the time when you switch to online statements. Participate and actively protect our climate. Change to online statements here.
